Yes, sheesham wood is good for a bed, and for most Indian homes it is the best value in solid wood. It is hard enough not to dent, heavy enough not to wobble, naturally resistant to termites, and it costs a third of teak. The honest comparison, wood by wood:

Where sheesham beats teak
Price, by a wide margin, and availability: most of the solid wood beds on Amazon India are sheesham. It is as hard as teak and takes stain better, which is why one sheesham bed is sold in four finishes. For a bed that stays indoors, in a dry room, sheesham gives up almost nothing.
Where teak beats sheesham
Damp. Teak’s natural oils make it the better wood for a coastal city, a ground-floor room that gets wet in the monsoon, or anything near a bathroom. Teak also moves less with the seasons, so joints stay tighter over thirty years. If you are buying a bed to hand down and the budget is there, teak.
When engineered wood is the right buy
A rented flat you will leave in two years, a child’s room the child will outgrow, a tight budget, or an upper floor without a lift (a solid king bed is 100 kg in parts). Buy it knowing it will not be repaired or resold. Check the stated load capacity, which matters far more for an engineered base than for a solid one.
How to tell solid sheesham from “sheesham finish”
The material line says solid sheesham wood, not “sheesham finish”, “rosewood colour” or “wooden”.
The weight in the listing matches the table above. This is the single most reliable check.
The photos show end grain on the legs and rails, with the streaks running through, not a printed pattern that stops at the edge.
The price is in the sheesham band. A ₹7,000 “solid sheesham queen bed” is not one.
On this site the recognised material and finish are shown on every card, and the listing-detail part of the FD Score rewards listings that state material, measurements and weight.
Listings that say teak in the name or description. A “teak finish” on a sheesham bed is a stain, not teak; the material line in the listing tells which.
Nothing in the catalogue matches this today. Check the category page; the list changes as prices change.
