A plain solid sheesham double or queen bed is the piece Jaipur makes most of, and the price on a Jhotwara gate, in a Tonk Road showroom and on Amazon lands within a few thousand rupees of each other. Storage (box or hydraulic) and a carved headboard are what move the price, not the shop. The queen beds on Amazon today run from ₹15,699 to ₹46,399.

Buying in a Jaipur shop: what to check

• Ask “solid sheesham?” and then lift one end. A queen bed you cannot lift alone is solid; one you can is board with a sheesham-coloured skin.
• Look at the underside and the inside of a drawer. Raw, unpolished sheesham there is normal and honest; laminate there is not sheesham.
• Agree the finish in writing: walnut, honey, teak or natural. “Same as the sample” is not an agreement.
• Delivery, carrying up and assembly are three separate charges in Jaipur; ask for all three.
• Seasoning. Ask how long the wood was seasoned; three months or more. Green sheesham cracks in the first summer.

When buying online is the better way

• Returns. Amazon takes a damaged piece back; a workshop rarely does.

• No haggling, no “this one is extra”. The price includes delivery to your floor.
