Writes the guides on Furniture Deals: sizes checked against the listings, prices and ratings read from Amazon India.
A wardrobe is the one piece where the listing detail matters more than the photo: height, depth, shelf count, hanging space and weight decide whether it works, and half the listings on Amazon leave them out. These are the wooden wardrobes with the highest FD Scores today; the score’s listing-detail ring rewards the ones that state their measurements.
Best wooden wardrobes right now
38 wardrobes in the catalogue, from ₹16,899 to ₹32,199.
The wall: width and the height to any beam or fan. Leave 2 inches above the wardrobe.
The door swing: hinged doors need their own width (18 to 24 inches) of clear floor in front. A bed within 24 inches of the wardrobe cannot open it.
The route in: a solid wood wardrobe comes assembled or in two halves. Measure the bedroom door (usually 30 to 36 inches) and the stairs.
Depth for hangers: a hanger is 17 inches wide; the wardrobe needs 20 inches inside, which is 22 outside. Shallower wardrobes hang clothes sideways.
What the inside should have
A hanging rail at least 36 inches long for two adults; three to five shelves; one lockable drawer; a full-length mirror on the inside of a door saves a dressing table. Listings that show the inside are worth more than listings with five photos of the outside.
Solid sheesham or engineered wood?
A solid sheesham wardrobe weighs 80 to 150 kg, is termite-resistant and can be refinished; it costs from about ₹20,000. An engineered-wood wardrobe with laminate weighs half that, costs from about ₹8,000, and lasts five to ten years. For a rented flat, engineered; for the long term, sheesham. How to tell which a listing is.
