Bed Sizes in India: Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King on One Chart

Indian bed sizes are simpler than they look: the length is 72, 75 or 78 inches for almost every bed, and the width goes up a foot at a time: 36 (single), 48 (double), 60 (queen), 72 (king). Here is the whole set in one chart, then what each size is for.

Makers vary by a few inches: you will see 72, 75 and 78-inch lengths of the same width, and listings written as “5×6” or “6×6.5”. The mattress must match the frame, so read the listing’s own numbers before ordering either.

Which bed size to buy

Single (36 inches wide)

One adult, a child from six, a guest room, a hostel. The only size that fits a 7-foot-wide room. Single bed sizes in detail.

Double (48 inches wide)

Two people who do not mind touching, or one who likes space. The cheapest two-person bed and the cheapest mattress size. In a 9 × 10 room it is the only two-person bed that leaves a path. Double vs queen.

Queen (60 inches wide)

The standard couple’s bed in India. 30 inches each. Fits a 10 × 10 room against a wall and a 10 × 12 room with bedside tables. Most storage beds are sold in this size. Queen bed dimensions.

King (72 inches wide)

36 inches each, the width of a single bed per person. Needs a 10.5 × 11 room at the very least and 12 × 12 to be comfortable. King bed dimensions. King vs queen.

Super king and above

78 inches wide and up. Rare in India, made to order by some makers, and mattresses and sheets are hard to find. Buy only for a room of 12 × 12 feet or more.

The room decides, not the budget

Take the bed’s floor size (add 4 to 8 inches to the mattress in each direction for the frame and headboard), add 24 inches of walking space on every side that is not against a wall, and compare with the room. Every product page here has a room-fit calculator that draws it for you. Where the sum does not fit, go down one size; the bed you can walk round is the right one.
